Construction

Everflon™ / Architecture & Construction

Built around
your vision.

Fluoropolymer materials for architectural films, coated fabrics and protective surfaces. Explore the material choices behind the spaces we build.

Architectural concept illustration. Not a structural design or installed project.

From the envelope to the detail

See the application.
Shape the specification.

Six starting points for discussing fluoropolymer materials in construction. Illustrations are conceptual and not to scale.

01 / Roofs & canopies

Let the design meet the daylight.

ETFE foil concepts for atriums, stadium roofs and covered public spaces.

Material route: ETFE film / foil

Define thickness, optical requirements, joining and the complete roof system.

02 / Architectural fabrics

Think in membranes.

PTFE-coated glass fabric for tensile membrane architecture.

Material route: PTFE aqueous dispersion

Review the coated fabric, seams, substrate and fabrication process together.

03 / Facade finishes

Make the surface part of the plan.

Fluoropolymer coating systems for exterior metal panels and architectural finishes.

Material route: PVDF-based coating formulation

Specify the substrate, pretreatment, finish and exposure testing.

04 / Bridge bearings

Consider the moving interface.

PTFE material options for sliding interfaces in engineered bearing assemblies.

Material route: Application-specific PTFE material

Confirm contact pressure, movement, mating surfaces and assembly requirements.

05 / Sealing details

Give every joint attention.

PTFE-based gaskets and thread-sealing tape for suitable pipe and joint applications.

Material route: PTFE gasket or tape route

State the fluid, pressure, temperature and joint design before selection.

06 / Building services

Remember the systems within.

Fluoropolymer insulation and jacketing options for building-service wiring.

Material route: Wire & cable fluoropolymers

Qualify the finished cable against the installation requirements.

Different forms. Different roles.

Choose the route.
Then define the detail.

Separate the raw material from the finished film, formulated coating or fabricated assembly when requesting technical information.

Film / Finished material

Cathay™ ETFE film

Explore the ETFE film offering for architectural evaluation. Specify the required film thickness, appearance and surface treatment; confirm suitability for fabrication and the project system.

Explore ETFE film ↗

Dispersion / Coating feedstock

Everflon™ PTFE D60

Aqueous PTFE dispersion for evaluating coated glass-fabric production. Request the appropriate fabric-coating grade and assess the coating and sintering process with the fabric manufacturer.

Coating / Formulation route

PVDF-based finishes

Discuss the resin and complete coating formulation for the specified substrate. Provide the finish, application and curing requirements so the appropriate grade can be confirmed.

Discuss coating requirements ↗

Grade availability and project suitability require confirmation. Film, dispersion and resin data do not replace the approval of a finished building system.

Architecture starts with questions

A material choice.
A system-wide decision.

Make the design intent explicit before requesting a material recommendation. Use one shared brief for the architect, fabricator, coating specialist and project engineer.

Light & appearance

What should the surface look like? Define transparency, color, gloss and acceptable visual variation.

Exposure & upkeep

Where will it be installed? Describe climate, contact media, cleaning methods and access for maintenance.

Assembly & evidence

How will it be built? Identify joining, supporting layers and the test evidence required for the complete assembly.

From concept to evaluation

Bring the drawing.
Build the brief.

A clear inquiry helps turn an architectural idea into a focused materials discussion.

01 / Define

Describe the component.

Share the drawing, application, dimensions, substrate and intended manufacturing route. Identify who will fabricate and install it.

02 / Align

Agree on the criteria.

List the properties to evaluate, the test methods, the documentation required and the acceptance thresholds set by the project team.

03 / Verify

Review the actual construction.

Plan samples or trials with the relevant specialist. Evaluate the finished material or assembly before authorizing project use.

Construction materials / FAQ

Before you specify.

Are ETFE foil and PTFE-coated glass fabric interchangeable?

No. They are different material forms with different fabrication routes. Describe the intended roof or facade concept so the relevant supplier and project engineer can evaluate the appropriate system.

Can a resin property establish a building-system fire classification?

No. Request evidence applicable to the finished product or assembly and the intended installation. A polymer name or a raw-material test is not, by itself, a building-system approval.

Can I specify a service life from the polymer family alone?

No. Define the exposure, construction, installation and maintenance conditions. Request supporting evidence and any applicable warranty from the supplier responsible for the finished system.

What should I send with an inquiry?

Provide the application, drawing, material form, processing route, project location and evaluation criteria. State whether you need resin, dispersion, film or advice on a coating formulation.
